Identify your practice today

for accountants, bookkeepers, tax preparers and financial advisers · 23 October 2026

A client asks an assistant which bookkeeper to call, and it answers with a name. It picks the one whose page says what a monthly close costs. Yours doesn't say it. Your parents' generation already lived through this once, when the firm either got a website or spent four years explaining why it hadn't.

And in accounting, somebody from inside your own trade got there first. On 6 October 2026 an accountant with 346,000 subscribers published a 42-minute lesson titled Work with QuickBooks inside ChatGPT or Claude, and six of his last fifteen uploads are about working with an assistant. We counted thirteen trades: accounting is one of only two where somebody in the trade is teaching this continuously. It is also the only one where both ledgers you actually run have published a connector an assistant can call — QuickBooks with 74 tools, Xero with 20, from the vendors themselves.

So the hard part is not available. It is published, by a colleague, for free, fifteen days before we had a name for it.

Which means you can do this tonight, and nothing is in your way. Not the software — it already opened the door. Not the knowledge — an accountant has already taught it. What is missing is four hundred words on your own site saying what a monthly close costs, which systems you take a client off, how long a return takes once you have everything, and whether you take somebody on in August. You know all four answers. You have said them out loud this week.

You ought to write them down today, because you are not early to this — you are late to your own profession. A client who asks an assistant for a bookkeeper gets a name, and at the moment there is nothing of yours for it to quote. Gala for your practice is where a client's assistant finally finds them. Bring one topic's worth about each of twelve things a client needs before they can hire you — Findability, Qualifiability, Bookability, Predictability, Visibility, Automability, Memory, Continuity, Reachability, Countability, Answerability, Learnability — and you qualify. Then you answer the ninety questions yourself; nobody writes a word of your practice for you.

Measured 22 October 2026 from the educator's own upload feed and from Intuit's and Xero's own connector endpoints. Across thirteen trades, two have a continuous teacher; accounting is one.
