A shelf · 2 November 2026

This address holds one line of work’s twelve written pages and, as they are printed, every artifact made from them — the narration, the slides, the cards, the short film. It is a shelf, so what is on it changes without anybody rewriting this page, and the only honest thing a shelf can do is say what is actually on it today.

Today that is 12 written pages, 12,840 words counted over those 12 files, and no printed artifact at all. The twelve are in the print register; 12 of them have a row of their own.

What is on the shelf

How this page counts, and what it refuses to do

It counts; it does not assert. The twelve questions are read from the one list this house keeps of them, in that list’s own order, and the run stops rather than filing a page under whichever heading came next. The number of parts a whole book needs is read from the register too — it stands at 12 of the 23 kinds of artifact the register knows about, and it is editable in one row, so no number of ours is written into this page about it.

Three empty results, three different facts. Nothing printed, not registered yet, and could not look are one blank to anybody reading a total, and they have three different fixes. The first two are states named above, per page: 0 pages are not registered, 12 are registered with nothing printed, and 0 have something. The third is not a state this page can be in: a run that cannot reach the register writes no page at all, because a file that said nothing exists could not correct itself when the register came back, and a page frozen in its own instrument’s failure is worse than a page nobody built.

Ready means a row, never a status word. The word a generating tool returns when it finishes is the same word whether what it finished is a six-minute landscape explainer or a vertical short, and it has been the word on an artifact nobody could play. So what is counted above is rows the register holds, and where an artifact additionally has a file behind the row that is counted separately and said separately. Nothing here promises a film on the strength of a field.

The pages are not reproduced here, deliberately. The twelve are about what a client asks before they will sign with anybody, and in this trade most of those answers are numbers a business has decided for years not to publish. Nothing at this address is for sale and no figure on it is a sum anybody would be asked for, because what a business brings in order to have a Gala is twelve answers about itself and that is the whole of what it brings. The written pages stay where they were written; this page says that they exist, how long they are, and what a reader can open today.

No business is named. Nothing above describes a real firm, and no figure above belongs to one.
